This brings back old memories as part of my 22 active duty years and 15 reserve years serving as enlisted submarine Torpedomen, Navy Chaplain, Marine Chaplain and Army Chaplain. I have fond memories of the sailors in Subase Pearl, especially the torpedoman chiefs. I made chief on the USS Gray FF 1054 in Sept 1982. I have had numerous assignment as a Navy, Marine and Army Chaplain. Pray for our troops in Harms Way. I have two nephews who are Navy Pilots, and I still love the Navy eventhough I spent the last ten years in the Army. My niece is married to an ARMY Military Intelligence Officer. Joined Subase in 1989 as EM1(SS) and left in 1995 as EMC(SS) due to accepting a commission. I remember one of my AT's to Pearl when the OIC relieved me of all mustering PO duties and turned me over to the Chiefs for "special training" to become a Chief. He said it as soon as we got off the plane in front of the Chiefs and I knew my fate was sealed. Very memorable experience. Subase was a great unit because of the people. Still in the Navy Reserves as a Seabee. Hope to make it to the reunion to see many familiar faces and new people I have not yet met in person. |

| Comments: | It is good to read all of the entrys. It sounds like the chatter before muster 0700 Saterday morning of drill weekend. It was catchup time from the month before. For those of you with militay retirement should try the Military Guest Inns. Some of them are GREAT and others are real hard core military. I have payed from $4.85/nt to $77.00/nt. The low end was an Army barracks to the high end at North Island Naval Air Station. Try it, it's great. |

| Comments: | My fellow team Mates! It is so good to see all the names of the people I remember so well! Having been the mustering PO for a while, the names come easy. I've seen Bill a few times, and some other folks like Master Chief Opem, Gary Esler, but sadly, I don't see them much anymore. I just recently completed 30 years (Dec '07) and still am going strong in the Reserves. I am currently OIC of a Remote Drill Site and travel to Omaha to do my drills. Have been the XO of "parent" unit three times, and practically all the other jobs too. I have three kids--5th, 4th, 3rd grades and stay home to support my wife with her business. It gets hectic, especially around Reserve weekends, and some of the "admin" and mandatory training get to me, but, I enjoy the challenge. We've had a lot of folks moblized recently and I pray I can be at home for my family--God willing. So good to see all of your names again. Drop me a line! |
